The American Tourister Valex is our top pick for a college laptop backpack. Its listing states a dedicated padded compartment for laptops up to 17 inches, 28L capacity across 2 compartments, a front organiser for accessories and a 1-year global warranty.
If you commute in the rain, the American Tourister Martt+ 02 and RON are the two picks that include a rain cover, both with room for a 17-inch laptop. The Safari Tribe has the largest stated capacity at 35 L, with a padded sleeve for up to 17 inches. The American Tourister Sest 3.0 is a 30 L, 3-compartment school and college bag whose listing does not mention a laptop compartment, so it ranks last here.

Editor's read
For a laptop bag, check the laptop compartment first, and the listings are not equally clear about it. Five say the sleeve or compartment is padded; three list a 17-inch laptop without mentioning padding; and the Sest 3.0, though sold as a college bag, does not mention a laptop compartment at all. After that, decide whether you need a rain cover, which only the Martt+ 02 and RON include.
— Bikram, editor
Editor's take
Buy the Valex for a padded 17-inch compartment and a stated global warranty. If you walk to college in the rain, the Martt+ 02 or the RON adds a rain cover. Do not buy the Sest 3.0 as a laptop bag, because its listing does not mention a laptop compartment.

How we picked these laptop backpacks
Every pick on this page is matched to its exact Amazon India listing, and the specifications, warranty terms and features on each card come from that listing; a brand's own claims are attributed to the brand. We don't physically test the products in our guides, and we don't link to Amazon search results. Prices shown come from Amazon's data with the time they were fetched; the price at checkout can differ.
Our editorial process is one person — Bikram, based in Pune. The order of products on this page reflects our editorial ranking only. No brand paid for a place in this ranking. Each ranked pick earns us money only through its Amazon affiliate link — clicking through earns a small commission, your price stays identical.
